In Central Railway, 185 kWp Solar power has been harnessed so far by installing various capacities solar panels and also 105 nos. solar water heating system of various capacities (total capacity – 52,400 Liters per day (LPD)) have been commissioned and 384 nos. manned LC gates have been provided with solar panels as stand-by arrangement at various locations so far.The major initiatives are briefed as under:

1. Grid-connected Solar generating system:
   
   

   1 no. 30 kWp capacity solar photo-voltaic grid connected power generating system has been successfully commissioned at IRIEEN, Nasik Road.

   3 Nos., 10 kWp capacity each solar photo-voltaic grid connected power generating system has been successfully commissioned at Parcel Office Building, CSTM station, Solapur Divisional Hospital and DRM’s office/ Nagpur.

2. Green Stations:
   
   

   Solar Panels have been provided one each at Tikekarwadi (2 kWp) & Sangola (4 kWp) of Solapur Division, Daundaj (2 kWp) of Pune Division, Kaman Road (2 kWp) & Neral (2 kWp) of Mumbai Division. In these stations all the connected load except signal load given through solar, by this, these stations are made Green Stations.

3. Integrated Renewable Energy based power supply system:
   
   

   7 Nos. Integrated Renewable Energy based power supply system (5.1 Kw windmill+1 Kwp solar panel), one each at Umbermali, Thansit, Asangaon, Khandala, Matheran, Pen & Khopoli Stations of Mumbai Division have been installed & made operational.

   
   
   
   
4. Other Solar Energy Initiatives:
   
   

   55 nos. various capacity of solar panels has been provided at way-stations over Central Railway as a stand-by supply arrangement to cater emergency lighting purpose during load-shedding. 105 nos. solar water heating system of various capacities (total capacity – 52,900 Liters per day (LPD)) have been commissioned at various locations so far.

   104 nos. manned LC gates have been electrified through Solar and 384 nos. manned LC gates have been provided with solar panels as stand-by arrangement.

   Tourist Favorite Neral - Matheran Meter Gauge First Class Coach No. 879 has been provided with 3x 7 W LED solar light system with the help of roof mounted solar panels on coach along with Lithium battery. This has been appreciated by passengers.

   
   
   
   

   483 Nos. solar street lights of stand alone type have been provided at various colonies and stations.

   1 No. solar panel of capacity 2 kWp has been provided at LC gate No. 30, Lonavala and connected complete load of Gang hut and gate lighting.
