Introduction of Energy Efficient Rolling Stock.

Setting up of Electric Locomotive Factory at Madhepura, Bihar through JV for manufacture of 12000 HP Electric Locomotives:

  • 800 nos High Horse Power (12000 HP) locomotives are planned for acquisition in the forth coming 11 years. Only 5 locomotive would be imported and the balance are to be manufactured in India.
  • Locomotive will have 87% energy efficiency.
  • These locos will also reduce CO2 emission of 350-500 tonne per loco per annum due to regeneration as a result of IGBT technology.

Status:
Bids opened on August 31, 2015. Contract is likely to be awarded to the successful bidder shortly.

Procurement of 9000 HP Electric Locomotives (200 nos) through JICA loan:

  • 200 nos High Horse Power (9000 HP) locomotives are planned for acquisition. Only 40 locomotives are to be imported and the balance are to be assembled/manufactured in India.
  • These locomotives are to be energy efficient with regenerative braking features and equipped with IGBT Propulsion technology for use on Western DFC.
Status:
Evaluation of Technical bid completed. Financial bid opened on October 06, 2015 and is currently under evaluation.

Procurement of Train sets:

  • Indian Railways have planned to introduce modern train system called Train Sets on Rajdhani and Shatabdi routes having superior riding experience , higher acceleration, increased capacity, energy efficient and also reduce journey time by 20%.
  • 15 Train Sets comprising 315 Rail Cars are planned for acquisition. Out of which 275 Rail Cars are to be made in India.

Status:
Bidders pre-qualified after finalisation of Request for Qualification(RFQ). Financial bids are due on December 21, 2015.

Setting up of Rail Coach Factory at Kanchrapara, West Bengal through JV for manufacture of EMU/MEMU coaches:


  • 500 EMU/MEMU coaches per annum would be acquired for a period of 10 years.
  • These EMUs/MEMUs will have state-of-the-art IGBT propulsion technology and would be energy efficient.
Status:
RFQ applications have been invited for selection of JV partner for setting up the factory.
